Long-Term Construction In Grand Junction, CO

Long-Term Construction In Grand Junction, CO

Our family business as general contractors has always given us a unique perspective about building in Grand Junction, CO. Western Constructors is owned by Bruce Milyard and his son, Tyler Milyard. The two have a family history in construction that reaches over 30 years, when Bruce first began the company. Relationships are our strategy for long-term construction in Grand Junction, CO. In some of our earlier blog posts from last year, we talked about how we’ve now completed work all over the United States. But recently, we’ve reaffirmed our love for Grand Junction, and our dedication to the community. In this blog post we want to talk again about why we are the right choice for general contractors in Grand Junction.

Community And The Internet

It used to be that neighborhoods really meant something. People didn’t just buy homes because they liked the location, the school, the lawn, and the interior. They got to know the people who could become their neighbors. It was important for families with kids to know if there were other kids in the neighborhood, or if there were parks nearby so they could play. Before the days of the internet, community meant more. Some of the best moments of life were spent in community bbq’s or picnics. It wasn’t uncommon for kids to congregate en-masse to play games of football or tag.

The internet, of course, has brought its own forms of connection, and neither is necessarily better than the other. Some people develop rich relationships online with their friends, or colleagues. As general contractors, our professional world has expanded with the internet. Not just in terms of the people we network and do business with, but in our education. It’s much easier to keep abreast of the latest trends in technology, and innovation. We’ve created great relationships across the country that have brought jobs and income to families in Grand Junction, through the internet’s growth over the last twenty years.

Long-Term Construction In Grand Junction And Our Communities

What we want to share with you today is that we’ve taken a couple profound lessons from our past, and from society’s changes to being more online. First, we liked the days of rich community involvement. Maybe you miss days like that too. Our goal is to increase community involvement by creating live-work spaces. You can see our love for it in the projects we take on. We’ve blogged about these projects in the past in more detail, but our project at Los Colonias and near the Edgewater Brewery are perfect examples.

The business park at Los Colonias is one of our favorite projects we’re currently working on. This construction project will bring dozens of new businesses into Grand Junction’s riverside area, and we envision, will expand the downtown. The work at Edgewater, which is just a few hundred yards away, already has the River’s Edge Townhomes, which we’ve put in over the last few years. That area will soon have more retail space, restaurants, and be a perfect live-work community in Grand Junction. When we think of long-term construction in Grand Junction, CO, we think of the Los Colonias development. New businesses are moving to Grand Junction, like Rocky Mounts. Businesses like these are creating new jobs in Grand Junction, and make our job as general contractors very exciting.

Live-Work Construction In Grand Junction, CO

The reason we like the expansion to the Riverside part of town is because it will be a live-work community. A place where people can live, like in the River’s Edge Townhomes, and walk to work either downtown or in the Los Colonias business park. We believe that one of the answers to our fast-paced society today is for general contractors in Grand Junction to develop communities where people are encouraged to know each other. The internet is a big world. Our own small communities in Grand Junction have become virtually global. It’s put a stress on our society, where we no longer know our neighbors. We want to bring back that local feel to our ever-expanding social network with people we see every day in our homes and places of work.

The second profound lesson we’ve learned from our society’s vast changes is that even though people connect more online now than they maybe even do in person, it doesn’t change the fact that we all want real in-person connections in our lives. Even though there are plenty of companies doing long-term construction in Grand Junction, CO, and many of those companies can be found online, people want to work with people they feel they can trust. The best way to build trust is with genuine conversations, and really listening – which is what our family atmosphere at Western Constructors has always taught us to do. Our office doors are always open to anyone we’re working with, or to anyone interested in hiring a general contractor. We also do our best to connect with the community in other ways, such as helping students in Construction Management at CMU.

When working with us, people can expect to be treated like family. It’s just the approach we take. We want to be part of Grand Junction for the long-term. We realize that the buildings we construct will be here probably long after we are. It’s a legacy that we’re proud to be part of. Grand Junction is a unique community that wants to hold on to what it’s always been. We don’t want to lose that neighborhood aspect to who we are.

Long-Term Construction In Grand Junction Is Making The World Smaller Again

Long-term construction in Grand Junction, CO, for us, is all about building communities that last. It’s why we work with companies we trust like Electrician Grand Junction, and pursue projects we can be passionate about.

You’ll notice that a lot of our projects have a live-work element to them. The Knollwood apartments on Patterson and 1st Street and right across the road from McCalister’s Deli. Walgreens is also there, a satellite office for Enstrom’s, and several buildings of office space. It’s a place people can live, eat, and work, all without driving. It’s a smaller community within the larger Grand Junction area.

Our goal is to make the world of construction in Grand Junction a smaller community, in an ever-growing society. We think that by helping people connect in smaller groups of people we can do Grand Junction a great service. We can help people feel connected even though the internet is so big. Even though Grand Junction as a city is growing faster than it ever has before.

Our Guide to Construction Materials

Our Guide to Construction Materials

At Western Constructors, we think that it’s important to give you as much information about the construction industry as possible. Often, we do so by teaching you things like the difference between general contractors and construction managers. But there’s some knowledge that people take for granted. We also think it’s important to cover the basics, especially when those basics can be incredibly important for first time home builders or project owners. That’s why this week we wanted to take a step back and talk a little bit about something that’s important in every aspect of the construction industry: building materials. In our guide to construction materials, we’ll talk a little bit about some of the many kinds of materials and their strengths and weaknesses. Even though it seems simple, choosing the right building materials for your project can decide how well it works out in the end.

Concrete and Steel Construction Materials

Concrete is probably the most common material in the construction industry, which is why it’s the first topic in our guide to construction materials. But let’s first talk about what exactly concrete is. Concrete is made up of three materials: water, aggregates, and cement. Though people often use the words interchangeably, cement is actually just one component of concrete. Essentially, water turns cement into a paste that coats the aggregates, which are usually made up of rock and sand. Concrete is a great building material to use for many reasons. It’s cheap to produce, which makes it a popular choice, and it’s also resistant to water and fire. In fact, concrete is more resistant to fire than wood and even steel. One disadvantage of building with concrete, though, is that it has a lower toughness. The toughness of concrete is roughly 1% to 2% that of steel.

Steel has become an increasingly important building material for a variety of reasons. In fact, we’ve talked a lot on our blog about the advantages of custom steel buildings. (Check out this blog post about reasons why custom steel buildings are so popular, for example.) Steel buildings are easy to maintain, they can be reused and recycled, and they have incredible toughness. This makes them resilient to weather and other damage, and this means that building owners don’t have to worry so much about maintenance. Though concrete can be cast into a particular shape, even concrete is more limited than steel. You can design steel buildings into shapes and layouts that no other building materials can handle. Unfortunately, though, steel isn’t quite as resistant to fire as concrete is, which means that it may require fireproof treatment. Still, it holds up to high temperatures better than other materials like wood.

Our Guide to Wood and Brick

Wood is one of the oldest building materials, and our guide to construction materials would be incomplete without talking about it. One of the best properties of wood is its light weight; unlike steel or concrete, wood is a relatively lightweight material. Because of this, though, wood isn’t often used for things like basement walls or foundations. It’s light weight simply doesn’t hold up. Still, wood is a great insulator against the cold, which makes it an incredible building material for residential structures. It’s also easy to cut, which makes it a useful and versatile building material in the construction industry, and people often prefer the look of homes built with wood. But wood has some other problems. Unlike concrete or steel, you sometimes have to deal with things like termites. And because it can’t be recycled, it’s not as environmentally friendly as other options like steel.

One of the biggest advantages that brick has as a building material is the way that it looks. In fact, many people choose to buy brick homes simply because they like the way that they look. Still, it’s becoming less and less common to see newly constructed brick homes. Though it was a popular building material for a long time, its popularity has steadily decreased. In 1970, people built 421,000 new brick houses, though they only built 113,000 new brick houses in 2010. There are several reasons for this recent decline. One of the problems with brick is its inability to handle temperature changes. Unlike other building materials like wood or steel, brick can crack when the weather changes, especially over long periods of time. Additionally, brick homes cost more. Because it involves laying each brick by hand, you have to pay for more labor when building brick houses.

Construction Materials of the Future

Recently, there have been some new building materials in the construction industry. More and more often, construction companies have been using recycled materials as construction materials. Some construction companies have started working on and using materials like self-healing concrete, which uses living spores in the cement that make it able to repair cracks in the concrete. Additionally, others have found ways to turn trash (like cigarette butts) into bricks that can be used as building materials. Though most of these new building materials aren’t widely used yet, you might see them more and more often as they become easier to produce. If you’re interested in learning more about the different kinds of construction materials, we recommend checking out this article here.

At Western Constructors, we work with you to make sure that you have the right building material for your project, whether you’re building a home for the first time here in Grand Junction or tackling your hundredth commercial project. We write posts like these to give you the information you need to make informed decisions about your current or future projects. And if our guide to construction materials helps you make a decision about which building material works best for your project, then our blog has done its job. Though it’s one of the first steps in the construction process, choosing the right building material is incredibly important. That’s why it’s important for us to educate you about it. We have years of experience and insight into the construction industry, and we hope that our blog can share a little bit of that insight with you.

5 Reasons Custom Steel Buildings Are So Popular

5 Reasons Why Custom Steel Buildings Are So Popular

At Western Constructors, we feel that it’s important to keep you up to date with the latest trends in our industry. It’s why we’ve written about things like trends for construction companies in 2019 and trends for construction companies here in Colorado. One of the recent trends in construction, and one we’ve been mentioning on our blog recently, is the use of custom steel buildings and prefabricated metal buildings. More and more often, people are choosing to go with custom steel buildings for agriculture, storage space, and even for their offices and homes. There are many reasons for this recent change in the construction industry. That’s why today we’re going to give you a list of 5 reasons custom steel buildings are so popular. We want you to have the information you need to make informed choices when you build a commercial building.

1) Custom steel buildings are cost-effective and sustainable.

Probably the biggest reason that custom steel buildings have become so popular is a simple one. The goal of any business is to make money, and using a custom steel building helps businesses do just that. Custom steel buildings cost less to buy in the first place, and they can help business owners save money in a variety of different ways. Most of the steel used in custom steel buildings comes from recycled material, which also makes custom steel buildings environmentally friendly. And because they are easier to maintain and insulate, they reduce energy costs, which has two benefits. Saving energy helps lower business expenses and it helps protect the environment, too. Business owners have started to build custom steel buildings to capitalize on both of these benefits.

2) Custom steel buildings are versatile and flexible.

Another one of the 5 reasons custom steel buildings are so popular is that you can build them to almost any specification. There are limits to the shapes and designs of buildings made from traditional building materials. These limits don’t exist for custom steel buildings. No matter what shape your business needs, you can design your custom steel building to meet your expectations. Being able to design your custom steel building also means that you don’t end up paying for wasted space. Oftentimes, businesses purchase buildings that are too large in some respects so they can fit their other needs. With custom steel buildings, however, business owners can make sure that they are only paying for what they need. Plus, there are many different textures, window placements, and color options that can make custom steel buildings look great.

3) Custom steel buildings are easy to maintain.

Because they are so weather-resistant, custom steel buildings don’t require much maintenance at all. There are a few things you can do to make sure your custom steel building lasts as long as possible (like washing out the inside of it and making sure that there aren’t any trees coming into contact with the outside), but custom steel buildings require far less maintenance than buildings made from traditional building materials like wood. Because they’re made out of steel, you don’t have to worry about insects ruining your foundation. You can even choose to paint them less often; generally, you can go a few years without having to repaint your custom steel building. If you’re interested in learning about some more maintenance tips for custom metal buildings, be sure to check out our blog post here.

4) Custom steel building projects get completed faster and more efficiently.

Because custom steel buildings are often completed off-site, things like weather don’t factor into the building process. There’s no need to worry about getting construction crews to the location, setting up the right time for them to work, and worrying each day about whether it will be possible for them to work on your building. Avoiding all of these problems means avoiding construction delays, which cost time and money to take care of. Instead, business owners have been turning to custom steel buildings. They know that they will be able to get their buildings up and running faster than they would with traditional construction. In fact, it’s even possible to buy preassembled steel buildings that you can deliver to your site immediately with no further construction needed. This is just another way that custom steel buildings can help business owners lower their costs and start making money faster.

5) Custom steel buildings are durable and long-lasting.

No business owner ever wants to pay to fix up their property after it gets damaged. Similarly, no business owner wants to have to move locations because their building is falling apart. Buying a custom steel building is an effective way of solving both of these problems at once. With custom steel buildings, you don’t have to worry about things like termites and fires. You don’t have to deal with the problems that traditional buildings often face. On top of this, custom steel building can essentially last forever, given proper maintenance. This means that once you set up shop, you don’t have to worry about moving somewhere else later on.

For some more reasons why custom steel buildings are so popular, we recommend checking out this article here.

At Western Constructors, increasing your knowledge about our industry has always been one of our goals. We think that if many business owners are choosing to build custom steel buildings, then it’s important for us to give you this list of 5 reasons custom steel buildings are so popular. Doing so is important; you can’t decide whether a custom steel building would be right for your business until you understand why other people are building them. We live in a rapidly changing world and we work in a rapidly changing industry. We know that it’s easy to get left in the dust. We’re hoping that our blog will keep you up to date so you don’t have to worry about falling behind. Our industry can be a tough one to understand, but we’re committed to making it a little easier.

Reasons to Hire a General Contractor in Grand Junction

Reasons to Hire a General Contractor in Grand Junction

In the past, we’ve talked about things like what you should look for when you hire a general contractor (you can find a link to that article here). But while these things are incredibly important to talk about, we’re going to go in a different direction. Today, we’re going to talk about why you should hire a general contractor instead. Knowing why to hire a general contractor is just as important as knowing how to find the right one. It’s our hope that this article—like our other blog posts—will make our industry a little clearer for you and give you all the information you need to make the right decisions. If you learn just one new thing every time you visit, this blog will have done its job. So today, we’re going to talk about some reasons to hire a general contractor in Grand Junction.

General Contractors Have the Right Knowledge and Skills

Do you know what all of the building codes across Grand Junction are? What about which subcontractors to hire and which to avoid? Would you be able to look at a finished project and guarantee that it will pass inspections? The truth is that most people have no idea. This is one of the reasons that hiring a general contractor is so incredibly important. General contractors like us know the answers to these questions. Plus, they can help you make sure that your building is safe and ready for inspection. If you try to work it out on your own and your building fails inspection, it means that you’ll have to spend time and money redoing your project and pay extra reinspection fees. Hiring a general contractor can help you avoid this unfortunate circumstance.

General contractors also have the skills and the experience necessary to manage a construction project. Scheduling isn’t as easy as it might seem, especially when you have to manage a lot of different people. But general contractors have experience in scheduling and know how to finish projects in the least amount of time. They also have contacts within the industry, which means that they know which subcontractors to hire and how to handle the subcontracting process. Imagine having to take care of scheduling and hiring for thirty to forty subcontractors (which is not an unlikely number when building a house) on top of your already-busy life. General contractors have the knowledge, connections, and skills necessary to complete your project safely and efficiently.

General Contractors Can Save You Money

Speaking of efficiency, one of the best reasons to hire a general contractor in Grand Junction is because they can save you money. And because they get the job done right the first time, you don’t have to go back and fix things after your project is finished. This leads to even more savings for you. Plus, when the job’s done right, the value of your new home or business is the highest it can be. If you’re trying to finish a project on your own and you’re not sure what to do or you have to cut corners, it can affect the value of your property. In this way, you can see hiring a general contractor as an investment. If you ever decide to sell your property, you’ll be glad that you had a general contractor leading your project.

Your general contractor acts as your single point of contact throughout the construction process. That means no mix-ups, no disputes, and no having to manage several different schedules all at once. Because things like mix-ups, delays, and disputes can all take time to resolve, you can complete your project more efficiently by hiring a general contractor instead. And remember those connections we mentioned before? Because of these connections, general contractors can get the materials and labor needed for your project at a lower price. When subcontractors don’t know who you are, they’ll often charge higher rates than they’ll charge the general contractors they’ve worked with before. In fact, the best subcontractors might not even choose to work with you if they don’t know who you are. This alone can almost completely mitigate the management fee that you pay your general contractor.

Some More Reasons to Hire a General Contractor in Grand Junction

Of course, there are other reasons to hire a general contractor as well. Unfortunately, construction can be a dangerous business. And if you don’t know what you’re doing, it can get you into trouble. General contractors have liability insurance and worker’s compensation policies so that you don’t have to worry about what happens if someone gets hurt on the job. Most people don’t have insurance that can completely cover the accidents or injuries that sometimes take place during the construction process. And even if it’s not an injury or an accident, something is bound to go wrong in every construction project. It’s better to have an experienced general contractor who knows what they’re doing than to try to take on those problems by yourself. If you’re interested in learning some more reasons to hire general contractors, be sure to check out this article here.

At Western Constructors, we have years of general contracting experience. Whether you’ve designed a new home or you’re looking to build a custom metal building, we can help. We’re confident that we can tackle any project that you can send our way. We’ve played a big role in Grand Junction, putting up new commercial buildings in the Las Colonias business park and new homes in the Redlands Mesa area. And that’s not the only thing we’ve done to improve our city. We’ve also helped shape the future of Grand Junction’s downtown. (You can read more about how we’ve shaped the future of downtown here if you’re interested.) We’re proud of the work we’ve done, and we can’t wait to keep making Grand Junction a better place. Things First-Time Home Builders in Grand Junction Should Know

Things First-Time Home Builders in Grand Junction Should Know

Building a home isn’t an easy thing to do, especially for first-time home builders. Sometimes people hesitate to build homes when they’ve never done so before. After all, they don’t know anything about the process and have never done anything like it before. Many people have questions about what they should be considering as they start the home-building process. That’s why today we’re going to help you answer some of those questions. At Western Constructors, we want to make sure you have access to all the important information you need to make well-informed decisions. It’s our goal for you to learn something new every time you visit our blog. In this blog post, we’re going to tell you some things first-time home builders in Grand Junction should know. Here are a few key things to consider if you’re building a home for the first time.

Things You Should Know About Your Builders

You should always make sure to check the reputation of the person who will be building your home. We’ve talked a little bit about this before in another one of our other articles (which you can read here). Recommendations and reputation are both extremely important in the construction industry. Even if you’ve designed most of your house on your own and you feel prepared, hiring the wrong home builders can be devastating for your project. Make sure to take the time to do some research about your potential builders. How long have they been working in Grand Junction? What are some other homes that they’ve built here? Questions like these can help you make sure that you’re hiring the right person for the job. The last thing you want is to hire someone with very little experience who turns your project from a dream home into a disaster.

One of the other things first-time home builders in Grand Junction should know is that unexpected problems are inevitable. You may not be able to predict what exactly will go wrong with your project, but rarely does any project go exactly as expected. What this means is that you should prepare for the unexpected; keep in mind that delays might occur and budget your time accordingly. The best construction companies will help you keep these delays and issues to a minimum, and they’ll let you know what problems they can predict. The person you choose to build your home should be ready and capable to help guide you through these problems, no matter what they end up being.

Things First-Time Home Builders Should Know About Location in Grand Junction

Another thing you should keep in mind is the location of your new home. Grand Junction is well-known for its access to the outdoors, and this can make a big difference on where you decide to build. Finding an area near a trail or a bike path can give you unmatched access to the things you love to do. There’s a reason Grand Junction is known for its outdoor access. But if hiking and canoeing aren’t really your style, you should check out other areas of the city that might suit you better. You want to avoid building your home somewhere where you’ll regret having it later. Even if you build your dream home, it can turn sour if you build it in the wrong place. You don’t want to be stuck in an area that you don’t like.

But location isn’t just about picking the best area of town for you to live. There are a few things you need to know as well. Have you considered all of the local restrictions and building codes? Doing so before you begin your project is absolutely necessary, though it’s something that many first-time home builders forget to do. You have to balance the location where you want to build with the restrictions that accompany it. For example, it might be your dream to build a home with a huge driveway, and you might think you’ve found the perfect place. Later, though, you might find out that the area you’re building in has restrictions about driveway length and placement. It’s important for you to know about these rules before you begin the building process so that you don’t have to start all over or put up with an imperfect project.

Considering Your Finances

This one might seem like common sense, but it’s a problem that arises often enough that it’s important to talk about. It’s incredibly important to know exactly what you can afford before you begin your project. And remember those unexpected issues that we mentioned before? It’s important to try your best to factor those into your costs as well. That way you’re not caught off-guard if something goes wrong or delays make your project more expensive than you expected. Most people call this a “contingency reserve,” and it’s important to have one so that you can be fully prepared. You don’t want to find out halfway through your project that you no longer can afford to finish it. If you’re interested in learning more about things first-time home builders should know, we recommend checking out this article here.

At Western Constructors, we have the experience and the ability to take on projects for new home builders. Whether you’re building one for the first or the hundredth time, we can help. If you’re interested in learning about some of the residential projects that we’ve completed in the past, be sure to check out this blog post here.
