Trends for Construction Companies Near Me

Trends for Construction Companies Near Me – Here in CO

In the past, we’ve talked a little bit about trends to look out for in construction companies in 2019. (Be sure to check out that blog post here.) In that post, we talked a lot about what the future of the construction industry will look like. But most of the trends we were looking at were trends for the construction industry as a whole. That’s why this week we wanted to narrow our focus a little bit. Instead of talking about overall construction trends across the US, we’re going to talk about Colorado. We think that it’s important to take a look back every once in a while. We’ve found that when people search “trends for construction companies near me – here in CO,” they often don’t find the results that they’re looking for. That’s why we’re here; it’s our goal to give you the information you need to stay informed about our industry.

Trends for Colorado’s Population Growth

One of the most important things about Colorado right now is that the population is rapidly increasing. In 2016 alone, Colorado had 90,000 new residents, which made it the 7th fastest growing state in the US. And that number hasn’t slowed down. But you might ask, “What does this population growth mean for trends for construction companies near me?” As people continue to move into Colorado, it means that construction becomes more and more necessary. New people are starting new businesses across the state and needing to build new homes, which is why Colorado has seen a boom in construction lately. It seems that you only have to drive a few miles before you see construction equipment at one location or another. Now is an exciting time for construction companies in Colorado because of all the new businesses coming in. And as Colorado grows, this trend will continue.

But why is Colorado’s population growing so fast? There are a lot of factors that go into Colorado’s recent growth. One of the reasons might be that the Colorado job market has been consistently improving over the last 20 years. In fact, the Denver Business Journal ranked Colorado as the #1 state for job opportunities and the #2 most attractive state for employment. It might also have to do with the abundant recreational opportunities across the state (and especially in Grand Junction). And in addition to the job market, the economy in Colorado has been steadily improving, too. As Grand Junction and the rest of the state continue to grow, we have no doubt that we’ll continue to see new businesses open up in the city and new faces around town. And as they come in, it’ll keep all the construction companies in Grand Junction on their toes.

Increased Demand and Energy Efficiency for Construction Companies Near Me – Here in CO

Unfortunately, though, increased demand doesn’t always work out the way you’d expect. Though it would be nice if every new person was able to build their dream home in Colorado, there simply aren’t enough people working in the construction industry to make this possible. In fact, there has recently been a labor shortage. There is so much work for construction companies that they often can’t hire enough people to keep up with the demand. Some companies have tried turning to prefabricated project delivery, which is used to create custom steel buildings, as a solution. But it’s not clear yet whether that will be able to solve the labor shortage problem. Due to the high volume of work, construction companies have struggled to hire enough people. This is true not just in Colorado but across the US. Right now, there are about 250,000 unfilled construction jobs across the country.

Like many other states, Colorado has recently been investing a lot into energy efficient construction. This is important if you’ve ever wondered “what are the current energy efficiency trends for construction companies near me – here in CO?” The answer is that most Colorado construction companies are trying to use new construction equipment and methods that make their projects and project delivery more energy efficient. Doing so can have many positive effects. Minimizing costs through energy efficiency isn’t just a way for construction companies to save money. It’s also a way that Colorado construction companies are able to help their local communities. By building energy efficient products using energy efficient delivery methods, construction companies can help improve the environment around them. Many companies are investing more in sustainable energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal power. In the long run, this can reduce waste and make the construction process more environmentally friendly.

Trends for Prefabricated Buildings

As we mentioned above, prefabricated buildings have been surging in the construction industry. It’s likely that they’ll continue to do so in the future. We’ve talked a little bit about the benefits of custom metal buildings for the industry, but we’ll talk a little more about them here. Because the projects are constructed offsite, it means that the companies that prefabricate the buildings don’t have to worry about many delays. They can work at their own pace without having to worry so much about scheduling issues, which makes it a popular option for construction companies. Getting your project done fast is always a priority in Grand Junction, all over Colorado, and abroad. If you’re interested in learning more about trends for construction companies in Colorado, be sure to check out this article here.

Things to Avoid When Buying a Custom Metal Building

Things to Avoid When Buying a Custom Metal Building

In the past, we’ve talked about the benefits of buying custom metal buildings and how to take care of them. (You can find our articles about these topics here and here.) But as much as we love talking about the great things that custom metal buildings can do for you, we also feel that it’s important to prepare you the best we can. That’s why in today’s article, we’re going to talk about some things to avoid when buying a custom metal building. It’s our goal to make sure that the construction process is as easy as possible for you. We want to save you all the headaches we can; that’s why it’s important for us to inform you. Warning you about some common mistakes people make when buying custom metal buildings is a way that we can help you be better prepared.

Communication and Research When Buying a Custom Metal Building

One of the most common mistakes people make when buying a custom metal building is not doing their homework. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to just put up a building anywhere you want. There are state building codes that you need to meet, and some of them refer specifically to custom metal buildings. Of course, we can help you with this process, especially if we’re involved from the beginning of the design phase. But it’s important to make sure your ideas won’t fall through because of building codes you forgot to read. Talk with your contractor about applicable building codes to make sure that everything will go as smoothly as possible. You should always feel comfortable asking your contractor any questions you might have about your project, whether it’s a custom metal building or not.

One of the other things to avoid when buying a custom metal building also has to do with good communication with your contractor. A lot of people run into problems because they’re either not specific enough about their desires or they don’t give the contractor all the information they need. You should ask yourself some important questions before you start looking to build a custom metal building. You might ask yourself, “How much space do I need, exactly?” This is an important question, as people often end up underestimating the amount of space that they actually need. You should also ask yourself whether you plan to expand your building in the future, as this can impact your project’s design. It’s important to talk about all these factors with your contractor so that you’re both on the same page. Ending up with an imperfect project is the last thing you want.

Avoiding Bad Budgeting and Multiple Companies

Failing to properly budget for your custom metal building is another mistake you should avoid. Though custom metal buildings are an incredible investment and they can often get completed far sooner than traditional projects, you have to consider all of the costs in your budget. Again, this is something that we can help with, especially in the early stages of your project planning. But if you already have a building in mind and a budget prepared, you might want to double-check it. There are a lot of costs that people sometimes forget to factor in when planning a budget. Some of these costs include excavation fees, taxes, transportation costs, land survey fees, and more. Failing to account for these in your budget can make your project more expensive than you initially expected, so it’s important to consider all the potential costs involved.

Another common mistake people often make when buying custom metal buildings is not hiring the same contractor to do the entire job. It just makes sense to have one company start and finish the job for you. When you start bringing in multiple companies, disputes occur, there is a less cooperative atmosphere, and mistakes happen more frequently. It’s like the design-build project delivery we use at Western Constructors; having one team work together to get your project done makes sure that it is completed as fast as possible. It also leaves no room for disputes, arguments, or litigation. So if you’ve been considering hiring one company to construct your custom metal building and another to install it, you might want to reconsider your plan. When too many people get involved, it can often complicate the process and make it a whole lot messier.

Things to Consider: Reputation

People also often forget to consider the reputation of the company that will build their custom metal buildings. In the construction industry, reputation is of huge importance. If a company has bad reviews and you’ve heard people saying bad things about them, odds are that they’re going to do a bad job. It’s true the other way around, too. Take a look at the company you’re planning to buy from to ensure that they have a good reputation. If they don’t, it might be a good idea to start looking elsewhere. We’ve talked before about how important reputation is in finding a good contractor, and it’s true here, too. If you’re interested in learning more about things to avoid when buying a custom metal building, be sure to check out this article here.

At Western Constructors, we’re proud of the custom metal buildings we’ve helped put together in Grand Junction. It always makes us happy to see how relieved our clients are with the reduced maintenance and utility costs that come with custom metal buildings. We felt it was important to talk about some things to avoid when buying a custom metal building because we want you to be prepared. The more you know about the industry before you purchase a building, the better. Whether you’re looking for a new barn, garage, or office, custom metal buildings can be an amazing solution. But even so, you should always be careful when choosing to buy one. We wanted to teach you what we know so that you can make informed decisions. Hopefully, this new information will help guide you through the buying process to make it go smoothly for everyone.

How to Save Money on Commercial Construction Projects

How to Save Money on Commercial Construction Projects

At Western Constructors, we’re always interested in giving you the best possible information about the construction industry. We want you to have everything you need to make informed decisions. Whether that’s teaching you how to look out for bad general contractors or how to hire the right one, it’s our goal to teach you something new every time you visit our blog. (If you’re interested in learning how to avoid hiring a bad general contractor, check out our article here. If you want to learn how to hire the right commercial contractor, be sure to take a look at our blog post here.) That’s why in today’s blog post, we’re going to talk about how to save money on commercial construction projects. We’re dedicated to looking out for you in the construction industry, and this is just one more way that we’re able to do it.

How to Save Money by Going Over Your Project and Taking Your Time

One of the best ways that you can save money on a commercial construction project is by making sure that you go over the project with your general contractor or construction manager. It may seem like this is an obvious thing to do, but people often forget this simple step. Once you have a contract for your project, you should carefully go over it. Sometimes, contractors will assume that you want or need things that you don’t. And because those things cost money, letting your contractor know up front will help you save in the long run. It’s much better to take something out now than to pay for something that you didn’t want in the first place. That’s why it’s so important to go over your project. You might even find something in your contract that you can take care of by yourself later on at a lower cost.

You can also save money on commercial construction projects by taking your time to look for the best commercial general contractor for your project. Though you might be tempted to leap on the first offer that you’re given, it’s a better choice to shop around a little and see what other offers you get for your project. Even though you should be careful about estimates that seem too good to be true, the first offer you get isn’t always the best one you could get. That’s not to say that you should always go with the cheapest contractor available. You have to find a balance between things like cost, performance, and experience. But you might find that a contractor with a good reputation and years of experience will offer you a better price than your first offer, so be sure to take your time.

Energy Efficiency and Prefabricated Buildings for Commercial Construction Projects

In talking about how to save money on commercial construction projects, it’s impossible not to mention energy efficiency. Though it might cost a bit more to make your project more efficient, it’ll be worth it in the long run. A small investment in energy efficiency now can lead to big energy savings in the future. Installing things like double-pane windows is a good way to improve the energy efficiency of your commercial construction project. You can also save money on energy costs by installing the best possible insulation. With better insulation, it costs less to heat and cool your building, which saves you money every single month. You might even consider things like solar panels that can help you save even more in the future. Putting money into energy efficiency is a small investment that can pay huge dividends over your project’s life.

You can also save money on commercial construction projects by considering things like prefabricated projects or custom steel buildings. These buildings often have better energy efficiency right off the bat because of the materials they use. They’re also often built offsite, which means that you don’t have to worry about things like weather delays. Weather delays cost you time and money, so having a prefabricated building can help you avoid those extra costs. They’re also easier to maintain than buildings built with traditional materials, and they last longer too. Reduced maintenance means reduced spending, so custom metal buildings can be a great way to save. If you’re interested in learning about some more benefits of custom metal buildings, be sure to check out our article here.

How to Save Money with Design-Build Project Delivery

Working with a design-build construction process can also be a great way to save money and reduce headaches. Design-build project delivery is a system where contractors and designers work together from the very beginning stages of your project. This allows these two parties to make sure that they are on the same page before your project ever begins. By creating a cooperative environment, minimizing disputes, and making sure that the project gets done as efficiently as possible, design-build project delivery can help save you money on construction costs. At Western Constructors, we’re proud to offer design-build project delivery for all of our projects. It’s a method that works; if it wasn’t, we wouldn’t use it. If you want to read more about ways you can save money on commercial construction projects, we recommend checking out this article here.

Bad General Contractors Grand Junction

Things to Look for When Hiring General Contractors Grand Junction

At Western Constructors, we’ve spent a lot of time educating you about the ins and outs of our industry. It’s important to us that you know as much as possible so you can make the right decisions. We’ve told you about how to hire the right commercial contractor for your needs (you can find a link to that article here). But we think it’s just as important to tell you about the bad contractors, too. What happens when you hire a general contractor and they’re not a good fit? What red flags could you have noticed that would have told you to watch out for them? In today’s article, we’ll talk about those red flags and how to know if you’re working with someone you probably shouldn’t. By telling you things to look for when hiring general contractors, Grand Junction will be able to make good decisions in the future.

Bad General Contractors’ Money and Behavior

Of course, when it comes to money, there are a lot of possible red flags. But something you can look out for early on is when your contractor asks for too much money up front. Generally, contractors do need to be paid up front because they need to spend money on the project. This is a normal part of the construction industry. But when your contractor starts asking for too much, it should be an immediate red flag. It’s usually standard for general contractors to ask for about 15% up front. Most states actually prohibit contractors from asking for more than 33%. So if your contractor comes up to you and asks for 50% up front, you’re probably in the company of a bad contractor. Good contractors are confident enough in their work that they know they’ll receive the rest of their payment upon completing project milestones.

Behavior is another thing to look for when hiring general contractors in Grand Junction and elsewhere. If the contractor you hired was friendly and cooperative when you hired them but is irritable, confrontational, or unavailable when your project starts, it should be another red flag. People have bad days sometimes, but it’s a general contractor’s responsibility to be professional and keep their clients satisfied. So if they’re kind to you before you hire them and start acting unprofessionally toward you later on, it’s probably a sign that you’ve hired a bad general contractor. And unprofessional behavior doesn’t just extend to their client interactions. Obviously, if a contractor is drinking alcohol at the work site, they shouldn’t be your contractor anymore. It’s not only unprofessional—it’s dangerous, too. You should avoid any contractor who drinks on the job.

Low Bids and Hiring General Contractors in Grand Junction

You should also watch out for incredibly low bids on your project. Some contractors might try to convince you that they can get your project done at an extremely low cost because they will use it for advertising or as a portfolio piece. But most of the time, this is a scam. If a contractor tries to convince you to work with them because of a low bid that you know is too good to be true, trust your instincts. These low bids almost always translate into poor workmanship and client dissatisfaction. It’s not worth risking your entire project to go with the lowest bid possible. You don’t want to end up with a finished product you can’t stand. It’s much more important to find a general contractor who you can trust to do a good job and complete your project on time, even if their project bid is higher.

Another huge red flag to look out for is if a contractor refuses to sign a contract. Contracts are incredibly important because they bind you and your contractor to an agreement. When a contractor refuses to sign a contract, what they’re really doing is refusing to play by the rules. They’re refusing to be accountable if things go wrong. If there’s a project dispute, the contract protects you and your contractor. Without a contract, you might not have any recourse if your contractor makes mistakes or spends too much. If your contractor refuses to sign a contract, you should refuse to work with them. By not getting them to sign a contract, it’s like you’re giving a bad general contractor a free pass to do whatever they want with your project, no matter how much you might dislike it. Don’t let any contractor trick you into working without a contract.

Things to Look for When Following the Contract Guidelines

But let’s say your contractor does sign a contract with you. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re off the hook. You should always make sure that your general contractor is actually following the guidelines laid down in your contract. If you don’t enforce those guidelines, it’s just as bad as not having a contract in the first place. Unless they’re clearly communicating with you and have discussed changes with you in advance, your general contractor shouldn’t be working outside of your agreement. So if you notice that your work is being done differently than you agreed to or that it isn’t being done at all, you’re probably working with a bad general contractor. If you’re interested in learning about more signs of a bad general contractor, be sure to check out this article here.

How to Increase the Value of Your Home

How to Increase the Value of Your Home

One of the biggest goals of our blog is to educate our readers so that you can make well-informed decisions in the construction industry. We’ve talked about common misconceptions about home builders in Grand Junction (you can find that article here) so you better understand the home building process, for example. But we’re not just interested in what you should know before having a home built in Grand Junction. We think it’s important to tell you what to do after you’ve bought your home, too. Our goal is to make sure you can be happy in your home for as long as you want. But sometimes things happen, and you have to move. And when those things happen, it’s better to be prepared. That’s why in today’s article, we’re going to give you some tips on how to increase the value of your home.

Landscaping and How to Increase the Value of Your Home Early On

The truth is that you don’t have to wait to get started. You can begin boosting the value of your home the first year you own it. So whether you’ve just bought a house and have been living in it a few months or have owned your house for a decade, there are things you can do to increase its value. That way, if you ever decide to move out and sell your home down the road, you’ll get a much better return on your investment. If you’ve been considering renovating your kitchen or bathroom, now is probably the time. In fact, most people think that bathroom and kitchen updates impact resale value the most. Renovating your bathroom or kitchen is a great way to improve the value of your home. When new home buyers come looking, they often want to see the bathroom and kitchen first.

Landscaping is another great way to increase the value of your home, and it’s also one of the easiest and most affordable ways to do it. Oftentimes, landscaping is the way new homeowners increase the value of their homes the most. It’s easy to do, and though it’s not overly expensive, it can greatly improve the value of your home. It’s common sense, really; the better your home looks on the outside, the more people are going to want to buy it. But if you’re a first-time homeowner, you may not know exactly what to do. One of the best things you can do is plant native trees in places that offer shade to your house. And the best part? The shade from the trees can also help you save up to 50% on your energy costs.

Adding Square Footage and Cleaning Your Home

Though it might seem obvious at first, you can increase the value of your home by simply adding to it. It’s simple: more space inside your house means that there’s more to sell when it comes time to move out. Keep an eye on current housing trends; if people prefer more open home designs, having a contractor pull down a wall or two to open up your floor plan can have an incredible impact on the value of your home. You should also try to stay aware of the costs of other homes in your area. If the most expensive home in your neighborhood is going for $300,000 and your house is already worth $285,000, committing to serious renovations may not be the best idea. Still, increasing the square footage of your home or modifying its design is a great way to increase its value.

It’s impossible to talk about how to increase the value of your home without also talking about cleaning and maintaining your house. If it seems like a simple way to boost your home’s value, it’s because it is. Keeping a clean house is more than just keeping your property pretty, though. Taking good care of your home and cleaning it regularly means that you’ll stay on top of any potential problems. It also means that if your home needs maintenance or repairs, you’ll have the information you need to fix it right away. If you don’t know what’s wrong in the first place, it’s impossible to take care of problems in your home. Proper cleaning and maintenance also keep things like mold from causing damage that could lower your home’s value. It’s much easier to occasionally clean your house than it is to deal with mold colonies.

Energy Efficiency and Increasing the Value of Your Home

You can also increase the value of your home by making it more energy efficient. We talked about planting trees as a way of saving on your energy costs, but there’s more you can do. Energy-efficient features like double-paned windows and even solar panels on the roof can greatly increase the value of your home. Future homeowners like to know that they can save on their utilities as well. That’s why making your home more energy efficient can save you money in the short term (on your electricity bill) and in the long-term (by increasing the value of your home). If you’re interested in reading about more ways to increase the value of your home, we recommend checking out this article here.

At Western Constructors, we want to make sure that you have a good experience with your home, whether you’re buying one for the first time or just trying to maintain your current house. It’s why we’ve written articles about things like the differences between residential and commercial construction (you can find a link to that article here). It’s our genuine hope that our blog will inform you enough to make the right decision about purchasing a home. And after that, we hope that our blog will help you take care of it, too. We’re dedicated to educating our community because we know how important it is for you to understand this industry. The more you know, the better decisions you can make for you, your home, and your family. We’ve served Grand Junction for a long time, and this is just another that we’re able to help our community.
